3 Post-doctoral vacancy @ CICECO & LSRE

In the framework of two projects funded by FCT we are inviting applications for 3 (three) research grants requiring exclusive dedication to perform research at the Portuguese Associated Laboratories, Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials (CICECO) and Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering (LSRE), located at the Universities of Aveiro and Porto, respectively. Prospective applicants should possess a PhD degree in Science or Engineering disciplines, with a preference for the areas of Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, and Physics. Work will be carried out at both institutions under the scientific supervision of Doctor José R. B. Gomes (CICECO) and of Doctor Miguel Jorge (LSRE).

1- Post-doctoral fellowship for up to 24 months (PROJECT: Theoretical Study of Silicate Chemistry in the Synthesis of Nanoporous Materials)

The objectives of the grant will be to perform computational studies based on the density functional theory (DFT) together with periodic models on the characterization of the condensation reaction of silicates and their interaction with template molecules used in the synthesis of nanoporous materials. Furthermore, the calculations will be employed also to refine a potential for classical simulations considering the same molecular systems.

2- Post-doctoral fellowship for up to 20 months (PROJECT: Theoretical Study of Silicate Chemistry in the Synthesis of Nanoporous Materials)

The objectives of the grant will be to perform theoretical studies at the classical level of the interaction of silicates with template molecules used in the synthesis of nanoporous materials, and to develop a kinetic Monte Carlo method to explicitly model silica condensation in those synthesis solutions.

3- Research fellowship for up to 18 months (PROJECT: Intelligent Design of Mesoporous Organosilicas for Adsorptive Separation Processes)

Theoretical studies of the synthesis and adsorption in periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs) using molecular simulation methods. The synthesis process will be studied through molecular dynamics simulations of the precursor solutions, aiming to describe the formation of those hybrid nanomaterials. Subsequently, Monte Carlo simulations will be carried out to predict the adsorption and selectivity of mixtures of carbon dioxide and methane in PMOs with different structures.
