Postdoctoral research assistant in Computational Chemistry
Postdoctoral research assistant in Computational Chemistry
School of Chemistry and CRANN, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland.
One postdoctoral research assistant position is available immediatelyat a salary up to €45,000 p.a. and is funded through a Science Foundation Ireland award.
The project involves the investigation of defects in technologically relevant materials including wide band gap ceramics (e.g. SnO2, CuAlO2) and oxide catalysts (e.g. CeO2, TiO2) using periodic density functional theory. In particular the group is studying a range of electronic defects and the appropriateness of available theoretical techniques (e.g. DFT, DFT+U and Hybrid DFT). The postdoc will be expected to contribute to the supervision of students within these topics and to perform more advanced work.
The successful applicants will join a vibrant research group and will receive training in, and use, state of the art computational techniques to investigate the effects of defects on relevant properties such as band gap, electron localisation, defect states, molecular adsorption etc.
Applicants for the Postdoc position must have a PhD in Computational Chemistry (or a related subject) or have at least submitted their thesis. Please send a cover letter explaining your interest in the project with a CV and the names of two academic referees to Prof. Graeme W. Watson, School of Chemistry, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland (watsong@tcd.ie). Telephone +353 1 896 1357.
